“We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.” – Native American Proverb
How we choose to live our lives today impacts more than just the world we will live in tomorrow - it decides the fate of the world for our children, and theirs. While past generations may have lived without completely understanding the consequences of their actions, we can no longer do the same.
As more and more evidence points to the harm we have already caused, it becomes clear that something must be done in order to protect it for future generations.
Thankfully, it seems that by changing our lifestyle and choosing to be more sustainable in our actions we can not only stop further damage to our environment, but we may actually be able to reverse some of it as well.
Below are three ideas you can use to start living more sustainably today.
Travel Less and Closer to Home. The energy required to fuel modern transportation is one of the most harmful things that is currently impacting our planet. By choosing to ditch airplanes as much as possible and travel closer to home - by foot when you can - you can positively reverse much of the harm that we have caused the environment.
Buy Local Produce. If you are working on reducing your travel, so should your fruit and vegetables. It is expensive to ship produce around the world - even across the country - so consider buying locally and supporting farmers and gardeners in your own backyard.
Minimize Your Footprint. Whether this means you choose a smaller home with a smaller heating/cooling bill, installing solar panels to your current home, or avoid changing as much of the natural landscape as possible, by considering how and where you live you can feel good about how your decisions are impacting the future.
While some people choose to take huge action, changing their lifestyle completely, when it comes to sustainable living, the truth is that you can do small things every day and still play a role in creating positive change for the future.
